About our school
Minerva School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) located in Sutherland, dedicated to providing high-quality, individualised education for students with intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional disturbances, and associated mental health needs. We offer a safe, structured, and inclusive environment where every learner is known, valued, and cared for, supported to achieve their full potential.
Our motto 'Learning for Life' reflects our belief that education should equip students not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills, confidence, and independence to thrive throughout their lives. We provide personalised learning experiences that recognise each student’s unique strengths, challenges, and interests, preparing them for meaningful participation in their communities, successful post-school transitions, and everyday life.
At Minerva School, we are united in our aim to develop the whole student through individualised education programs and experiences. We believe that strong relationships with families, carers, allied health professionals, and the wider school community are integral to ensuring every student is known, valued, and cared for.
Our dedicated staff set high expectations for all students, with a strong focus on developing their ability to regulate emotions and enhance social literacy skills. These skills empower students to become active, engaged citizens within their communities. Student-centred opportunities are created to inspire independence and support every learner to achieve their full potential.
Alongside the curriculum, students engage in programs that build essential skills in communication, independence, life skills, and social interaction. They also have access to rich opportunities in externally delivered sports, creative arts, play-based and outdoor learning, and community participation. Our commitment to High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) ensures all learners are appropriately challenged, while our Aboriginal Education connection to country is honoured through our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
We place a strong emphasis on pathways and transitions, preparing students for their next steps through post-school and work experience opportunities designed to develop life skills and establish successful futures beyond school.
Our classrooms and specialist spaces, including a sensory garden, multi-sensory room, living skills room, and indoor/outdoor movement areas, are thoughtfully designed to meet diverse needs, helping students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. The high level of care, nurture, and guidance at Minerva School cultivates a learning environment grounded in individualised needs and respectful relationships. Our caring and highly skilled staff foster confidence, connection, and pride in every learner.
Enrolment occurs through the NSW Department of Education placement process. Families and schools are invited to contact us to discuss whether Minerva School is the right fit and to learn more about enrolment requirements.
