Transition
At Minerva, we prepare every student for life beyond school with clear, personalised transition planning and support. From the early secondary years through to graduation, our staff work closely with students, families and external providers to build the skills, confidence and connections each young person needs for their next steps. We get the ball rolling early on this planning so it is steady, gradual and supportive to give students and their families plenty of time to explore options, develop skills and avoid the post school planning pressure that can build in Year 12.
Individual Transition Planning
From Year 10, each student at Minerva School has an Individual Transition Plan (ITP) that maps out their pathway from school to life beyond. Developed and reviewed at the start of each year in partnership with families, carers and relevant external providers, the ITP sets clear, achievable transition goals for the student and outlines the supports needed to reach them. It is reviewed and updated regularly to reflect each student’s developing interests, skills and aspirations.
Internal and External Practical Opportunities
We provide practical opportunities for our students to build their independence, communication, and life skills through activities ranging from community access outings to structured work placements. In-school work experience programs and partnerships with organisations such as Skillz4Me, SCOPE, and CIVIC Industries further extend these opportunities, helping students explore vocational training, supported employment, further education, and community participation pathways.
Resources and Information
Families are engaged early and remain key partners at every stage of our students transition planning journeys, ensuring that each pathway is tailored, achievable and well supported. We place a strong emphasis on supporting families throughout the process. Resources such as our Tips for Transition checklist (covering NDIS and Service NSW applications) and the developing Minerva Transition Handbook provide practical and useful guidance for parents and carers. We also host parent information sessions with guest speakers from external services and industries to help families make informed decisions and build valuable connections.
Our goal is that every graduate leaves Minerva School with the skills, confidence and networks to thrive in further education, employment and community life.
