Facilities and resources

Minerva School offers a rich variety of spaces and resources designed to engage students and support their learning and self-regulation.

Our school facilities and spaces

We provide a variety of specialised environments and spaces that help our students to engage, learn and regulate throughout their school day including our:

Regulation Spaces

Sensory Room

Our well-designed sensory room provides a calm space where students can safely regulate their emotions and bodies. It helps students reduce overwhelm, recover from heightened states, and build self-regulation skills over time. This dedicated environment supports students to return to learning feeling more settled, focused, and ready to engage.

K-6 Playground

Our thoughtfully equipped playground, with features like slippery dips, pressure rollers, a hammock swing, sandpit, climbing frame, trampolines and spinner naturally supports students’ emotional regulation by giving them safe outlets for movement, sensory input and play-based exploration. These experiences help students release built-up energy, organise their nervous systems and practise turn-taking and problem-solving in a low-pressure environment. Access to this kind of rich, sensory-motor play often allows students to return to the classroom feeling calmer, more connected and better able to engage in learning.

Infants Swings

A dedicated swings space, featuring a variety of swings, including hammock swings and (find correct names fir other style of) swings, nestled in a quiet garden corner provides a soothing environment for students to regulate their emotions through rhythmic, calming movement. The gentle motion supports sensory organisation, reduces anxiety and offers a predictable way for students to settle their bodies after moments of overwhelm. This peaceful garden setting also minimises noise and visual distractions, helping students return to class feeling grounded, relaxed and ready to re-engage with learning.

Sensory Garden

A sensory garden filled with a variety of plants and trees offers students a naturally calming space where they can explore gentle smells, textures and colours at their own pace. The opportunity to touch leaves, feel different surfaces and watch movement in nature helps settle busy nervous systems and encourages quiet curiosity. Interactive musical installations add another layer of soothing sensory input through soft, rhythmic sound, while a dedicated yarn-circle area creates a safe, inviting space for connection, conversation and emotional reset. Together, these elements support students to regulate, recharge and return to learning feeling more centred and calm.

Trampolines

Inground trampolines and bikes or tricycles provide highly motivating, movement-based regulation opportunities for students who need active sensory input to settle their bodies. The controlled bouncing of the trampolines offers rhythmic proprioceptive feedback that can reduce agitation and support emotional reset, while riding bikes or trikes helps students organise their motor planning, release excess energy and practise independence. These activities give students a safe, structured way to regulate through movement.

Kitchen Garden

Our kitchen garden offers students a hands-on, sensory-rich environment where they can engage with nature and nurture growth at their own pace. Planting, watering and harvesting activities provide tactile experiences that help ground busy minds and promote mindfulness. The rhythms of caring for living plants encourage patience, responsibility and a sense of accomplishment, supporting emotional regulation and self-confidence. Sharing the bounty through cooking or tasting sessions fosters connection and conversation, creating a nurturing space for social-emotional learning. Together, these experiences help students feel more centred, calm and ready to engage in the classroom.

Play and Creative Arts Rooms

Our play and creative arts room offers students a vibrant, inspiring space where they can express themselves through a variety of artistic and playful activities. With access to materials for drawing, painting, crafting, music and imaginative play, students are encouraged to explore their creativity while developing fine motor skills and emotional awareness. This nurturing environment supports emotional regulation by allowing students to channel their feelings into creative expression, practise problem-solving and build confidence. Collaborative projects and shared experiences foster social connection and communication, helping students feel more centred, calm and ready to engage in learning.

Resources and technology

We use a range of modern technology and digital tools to enrich learning, regulation and communication. These resources help our students to explore ideas, build key skills and stay engaged every day in their own individualised way that meets their needs.
